What is
Sports Psychology?
Psychology is the science that
deals with the mental processes and behavior. The emotion and behavioral characteristics of an
individual or team.
The sports mind call it
the "Mental Edge" or "It's all Mental" that's what "Getting in the Zone" is referred to.
The Conscious
Mind functions are to: look, listen and to learn. It does
all the analyzing, criticizing, reasoning and judging. It has the responsibility to accept or reject any
thought or idea.
The Subconscious
Mind, conversely, is irrational and makes no decisions. It only
acts on what it is programmed to do by instinct, genetics, habit, or repetitive thought. It's main functions
are to run and preserve the body, store memories, regulate emotions and energy, maintain perceptions
and filters, and all automatic functions that you never have to think about.
Knowing
the differences and understanding the process of how the mind works can help you begin to deal with your
issues and installing new belief systems that put you on track to achieve your Athletic
goals.
Many
athletes are never exposed to this possibility their entire life and go about their daily routine always
wondering why they just can't change the things they want in their life. They just keep repeating the same patterns
over and over.
Mental Performance Skills
Training can only enhance your life by adjusting those routines and having them become
successful life changing experiences.
